Discover the furniture we supplied to Paulie’s, a retro-inspired restaurant channelling the raw energy of Lower East Side slice shops to serve up authentic, crispy New York City pizza in the heart of London.
From Manhattan to Shoreditch: Paulie's Journey
The team of Detroit Pizza London, who already successfully exported Motor City’s famous deep-dish to Shoreditch, decided it was time for a new challenge.
Their mission? Bring the iconic flavour, late-night buzz, and unmistakable attitude of Manhattan’s East Side straight to London’s East End. Capiche?
NYC-style pizza is woven into the fabric of the Big Apple’s culinary history just as deeply as pastrami and bagels. Pioneered by Italian immigrants in the early 1900s, by the 80s it evolved into a city staple, defined by wide, foldable, crispy slices grabbed on the go.
Many years and perfected dough batches later, Paulie’s opened its doors, ready to transport the authentic flavours and fast-paced atmosphere of the City That Never Sleeps straight to Shoreditch.
The Interiors
Paulie’s doesn’t just replicate the food; it captures the entire soul of a bygone New York era. Curated with a keen eye for nostalgic Americana, the space boasts glowing Tiffany ceiling lamps, a massive tiled communal table perfect for late-night crowds, and old-school vinyl window decals. The atmosphere is thick with a cinematic vibe that instantly teleports diners back to a bustling, neon-lit 1980s Manhattan.
The Furniture
Following the brilliant design direction of Daystudio, Kirkdale Studios stepped in to supply and design two distinct barstools engineered to complement Paulie’s high-traffic, vintage aesthetic.
Our bespoke K-Cloud Barstool are placed right by the front windows to welcome diners as they step inside. They feature a gleaming chrome finish that catches the warm ambient light, beautifully paired with plush upholstery in Torro Faux Leather by Sunbury Design. The chosen shade, Tamarind, is a warm, tangy, mid-century orange-brown that perfectly mirrors the rich tones of a perfectly baked pizza crust.
To complement the counter and communal table area, we supplied the sleek Flora barstool base finished in polished stainless steel with a bespoke padded seat, upholstered in the same matching Tamarind faux leather.
These stools offer a timeless, industrial edge that seamlessly blends durability with retro diner charm.
With its perfectly foldable, crunchy slices and meticulously curated interiors, Paulie’s is a vivid little corner of NYC alive and kicking in London.
