Design that Spotlights the Local History
Nestled in the heart of Northampton, the Mercure Hotel stands as a beacon of modern sophistication, blending its rich local heritage with contemporary design. Recently, the hotel underwent a remarkable transformation, with the redesign of its guest rooms spearheaded by the acclaimed interior design studio, Design Command who have created a harmonious blend of comfort, elegance, and practicality, ensuring that every guest enjoys a memorable stay.
The Project
Design Command approached the Mercure Hotel Northampton project with a clear vision: to create a space that captures the town’s historic charm while embracing the standards of modern hospitality. Northampton’s rich heritage, from its medieval market square to its renowned shoe-making legacy, served as a backdrop for the design inspiration.
The hotel’s interiors reflect this local story, featuring subtle nods to Northampton’s identity through colour palettes, materials, and textures. Neutral tones of greys and creams are accented with warm earthy hues, creating a serene yet inviting atmosphere. The use of textured wall coverings, soft furnishings, and artwork pays homage to the region’s craft traditions, making each room feel like a curated retreat.
The Furniture
After sourcing furniture for the sample room, we had the pleasure of supplying over 240 items of seating for guest rooms and suites in the Northampton Mercure hotel and their partner hotel Sifford Hall. We worked with our trusted factories known for their craftsmanship and attention to detail to produce comfortable, stylish and durable furniture. Each piece has been meticulously designed to complement the overall aesthetic with dual fabrics that complicate the colour palette/theme of the room and the hotel as a whole. A soft boucle covers the back rest while a supple leather has been upholstered onto the seat. The furniture’s quality and design contribute significantly to the rooms’ inviting atmosphere, providing guests with both comfort and style.
The Colours and Textures
A hotel room chair has to be suitable for any purpose: a place to hang clothes, a temporary office desk and of course a place to relax after a long day. Blending style, expert craftsmanship and comfort, the Camille side and arm chair were the perfect choice of seating for this Mercure hotel.
The Redesign
Beyond aesthetics, the redesigned guest rooms focus heavily on guest experience. Modern travellers seek a blend of comfort and convenience, and this was central to the interior concept from Design Command. Spacious layouts, thoughtfully arranged furniture for every specific room, ambient lighting and functional workspaces were all carefully considered to bring a piece of home to hospitality.
Whether visiting for business, leisure, or an event, guests will appreciate the seamless fusion of heritage and modernity. The redesign showcases how thoughtful design, combined with high-quality craftsmanship, can elevate a hospitality space, making it a true home away from home.
