Farmer J Opens Its Doors to Russell Square

The Interiors

The moment you step inside, it’s clear that Farmer J has taken great care to create an environment that feels both welcoming and vibrant. Designed by the award winning team at Holand Harvey, the design draws on natural materials and a palette that feels rooted in the land—an homage to their farm-to-table philosophy. This is counted by the industrial features of the building, steel girders and exposed brick are used as features throughout the venue to include the down to earth, urban history of the area. The walls feature a combination of soft neutral tones and subtle earthy greens, creating a calming space that feels miles away from the busy London streets outside.

One standout feature is the exposed wooden beams that run across the ceiling, lending a touch of rustic charm to the otherwise contemporary setting. These beams are complemented by the hand-crafted timber furniture around the room, each piece unique, with natural knots and grain patterns that underscore the restaurant’s commitment to authenticity.

The Furniture

The seating in Farmer J’s Russell Square outpost deserves special mention. An eclectic collection of solid timber chairs line the tables, each one as comfortable as the next. Rattan backrests, Stick back chairs and bright powdercoated orange metal frames are just some of the individual chair features.
