Designing the New Farmer J: A Look Inside the Coleman Street Restaurant
We have had the pleasure of supporting Farmer J through several of their openings over the years, supplying contract furniture that is as durable as it is beautiful.
Their newest venue, located on Coleman Street, tucked between St. Paul’s and Liverpool Street Station, opened during the week of 24th November. It is a fresh and vibrant addition to their growing London portfolio. And with Farmer J preparing to cross the Atlantic to launch their first American restaurant in New York, the momentum shows no sign of slowing.
Before they take on the Big Apple, let’s step inside their newest London location and explore what makes it special!
Farmer J's Ethos
Founded in 2014, Farmer J began with a simple idea: to serve healthy, scratch-cooked, flavourful food to Londoners who want meals that keep them going. Just over a decade later, the company has expanded to seventeen locations, fuelled by a passion for fresh ingredients, bold flavours and a welcoming environment.
Farmer J is best known for its FieldTray, one of London’s favourite build-your-own meals, which lets guests choose from a selection of grains, mains and sides. It is wholesome, filling and consistently satisfying, creating a loyal following that continues to grow.
But Farmer J is not only about food. The team understands that eating well also means feeling comfortable in the space around you. This is where our partnership fits naturally. We share a belief in thoughtful sourcing, sustainable practices and crafting experiences that nourish both body and soul.
Coleman Street
The new Coleman Street location embodies everything that defines Farmer J. The interior feels warm and energetic, softened by an abundance of plants and animated by the familiar buzz of their open kitchen. The space is designed for all three ways guests enjoy Farmer J: dining in, taking food away or ordering delivery. Whichever method people choose, the environment reflects the brand’s ethos of accessible, uplifting and honest food.
A standout feature of this venue is a collection of vibrant murals created by artist Boon Yik Chung. Positioned throughout the main dining area, these artworks overflow with colour and motion, capturing the rhythm and spirit of everyday London life. Farmer J documented the mural-making process on their social platforms, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative journey.
The Furniture
For this project, our focus was to choose furniture that harmonised with Farmer J’s calm and earthy tones while also meeting the demands of a busy hospitality environment.
We supplied Mogensen Side Chairs with seats crafted from paper cord and frames made of beech wood lacquered in a rich khaki green. Their tactile quality and natural materiality complement the overall aesthetic of the space. The tables feature honed and sealed terrazzo tops containing a medley of green fragments, paired with steel bases powder coated in a soft RAL green. These pieces bring subtle character and texture to the dining experience.
At the entrance, the circular table is accompanied by our distinctive Bouchon Stools, with sturdy cork seats and sleek steel frames. Together, they create a welcoming focal point that stands out without disrupting the restaurant’s calm visual identity.
Most of the furniture reflects Farmer J’s signature colours of sage green and naturally stained wood. The murals enrich the palette further, adding diversity while maintaining cohesion.
