Step into the world of DOOD, a restaurant that pays homage to the rich culinary traditions of Persia and the Levant. Inspired by the meaning of its name—”smoke” in Farsi—DOOD brings together bold flavours, aromatic spices, and the magic of open-flame cooking to create an unforgettable dining experience.
The Project
Designed by the award-winning team at Run For The Hills, the interior of DOOD is a visual feast. Warm hues, textured finishes, and traditional iconography come together to reflect the vibrant culture and flavors of the Silk Road. Every detail of the space has been thoughtfully curated to transport guests to another time and place while blending ancient influences with modern sophistication.
At Kirkdale Studios, we’re thrilled to have contributed to this remarkable project. From the outdoor terrace’s bespoke timber table tops, printed with DOOD’s unique branding, to the meticulously sourced materials like Rosa Levanto marble and hand-finished wood stains, every piece was crafted to honor the design vision. Through close collaboration with Run For The Hills, we ensured every element aligned with the vibrant, welcoming atmosphere that defines DOOD.
The Restaurant
The menu, developed by celebrated chef Colin Clague and the brilliant minds behind Dabbawal and Khai Khai, takes diners on a culinary journey along the Silk Road. Colin, whose illustrious career spans Michelin-starred kitchens and world-renowned restaurants like Zuma and Dubai’s Burj Al Arab, brings his expertise to DOOD. “The history and culture of the Silk Road offer endless inspiration,” says Colin. “At DOOD, we’re using the finest ingredients to craft a menu that’s as exciting and varied as the regions it draws from.”
The result is a menu that perfectly blends tradition and innovation—mezze, grilled meats, and vibrant plant-based dishes, all designed for communal feasting. It’s a celebration of Persian-Levantine heritage with a contemporary twist, offering something for every palate.
The Design
The atmosphere at DOOD is equally captivating, combining the history of the Persian Empire with modern design sensibilities. Visitors often remark on the ambiance—it’s as if the rich heritage of the Silk Road has been brought to life in the heart of Newcastle. The visual identity of DOOD draws deeply from the nomadic spirit of the Silk Road, a theme seamlessly embedded throughout the interiors and branding. Run For The Hills brought this powerful vision to life with custom-designed fabrics that embellish the walls, ceilings, and furnishings—a modern reinterpretation of Persian rug artistry. The designs incorporate the Farsi alphabet and symbolic motifs, creating a narrative tapestry that resonates with cultural depth and has been heightened in their playfully inventive branding.
