Discover the furniture we provided for Berenjak, a premium Persian restaurant in Duke Street, Mayfair.
Kirkdale Studios collaborated with the creative duo at Atelier Wren to transport the soul of the Caspian Coast to the heart of Mayfair. For the newest location of the award-winning Persian restaurant Berenjak, the goal was to recreate the nostalgic, warm atmosphere of a traditional family villa.
Berenjak's Story
Berenjak’s story is deeply rooted in the childhood memories of its founder, Kian Samyani. Even the name comes from a rice snack that his aunt used to prepare when he visited Iran as a child.
They first opened in Soho in 2018 with the mission of bringing traditional food, but also the warmth and familiar atmosphere of Samyani’s Caspian roots.
Now, after opening nine restaurants in four different countries, they looked to the villas of Shomal to inspire their new Duke Street home.
The Project
The concept behind the new Berenjak’s restaurant in Duke Street is “a family villa on the Caspian Coast”, a place where family and friends gather to share homely, rustic meals.
To celebrate the rich Persian heritage, the designers of Atelier Wren leaned heavily into intricate craftsmanship. This is evident in the Persian stained glass wall elements and the bespoke ceiling artworks inspired by ancient manuscripts and classic literature.
The Furniture
The interiors are defined by velvety textures and a rich, warm color palette, illuminated by soft lighting to create an intimate, “moody” atmosphere.
The space features metal tables tops with intricate edge detailing inspired by the Ghalamzani, the traditional art of Persian metalwork, and mounted on bespoke tulipwood bases.
To enhance the relaxed, familiar atmosphere, there are plush booths and banquettes with fluted backs.
The Chairs
Kirkdale Studios is proud to have contributed to the tactile beauty of Berenjak’s Mayfair.
We provided the retro-looking Spirit Wicker Armchair, which pairs a sturdy beech frame with a natural cane backrest to provide a timeless, residential feel.
In addition, we designed the bespoke K-Koi Side Chair, a piece that stands out for its decorative, eye-catching backrest. When designing this custom chair, we adhered to very specific measurement requirements to ensure that it would fit perfectly within the allocated space while remaining exceptionally comfortable for diners.
All the seating was upholstered with Old English by Crest Leather in the shade Red Brown, that complements the restaurant’s warm, earthy palette.
Artistry and Tradition
What makes Berenjak’s interior so striking is the dedication to authentic decorative work that celebrates Iran’s rich culture and tradition.
Apart from the stained glass elements and the Kama sutra imagery inspired artwork on the ceiling, the space features decorative wall finishes and marble mosaic floors. In tune with Berenjak’s values, much of the decorative work was made by second-generation female artisans, ensuring the space feels lived-in and culturally significant.
